‘Save Girl Child’ campaign – stoping the homicide of unborn girls in India
Today I came across an article at the site trak.in about a fashion show by designer Sanjana John in India, made for the ‘Save Girl Child’ campaign. Fragments are below:
Wearing collections of Sanjana John, the Bollywood fraternity walked the ramp for ‘Save Girl Child’ campaign during the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WLIFW).
Collections of the designer were inspired by the basics of Humanity-the family.
As Indian culture thrives with the family values and the strength of love amongst siblings, the designer roped in some top celebrities.(…)
It was indeed a star-studded affair.
Sanjana described all the participating celebrities as ‘one Indian family’.
“The show was dedicated for ‘Save Girl Child’. All these people have come for the same campaign. This is India and we all stand together as brothers and sisters. It’s about unity. As Indians, we all stand together as brothers and sisters and there is the family,”
As a matter of fact heard only briefly about ‘Save Girl Child and I quickly realized that I should be much better informed…
Save Girl Child is the Indian organization established in order to fight for the rights of girls in India, on the basis of shocking facts of extreme discrimination of unborn female fosters in the Indian society.
Below fragments are found at the site indianchild.com:
‘This social evil is deep rooted in Indian ethos and the most shocking fact is that the innovative and hard high end technologies are brutally killing the Indian girl child. Innovative techniques, like biopsy, ultrasound, scan tests and amniocentesis, devised to detect genetic abnormalities, are highly misused by number of families to detect gender of the unborn child. These clinical tests are highly contributing to the rise in genocide of the unborn girl child.
Amniocentesis started in India in 1974 to detect fetal abnormalities. These tests were used to detect gender for the first time in 1979 in Amritsar, Punjab. Later the test was stopped by the Indian Council of Medical Research but it was too late. The benefits of these tests were leaked out and people started using it as an instrument for killing an innocent and unborn girl child. Many of the traditional women organizations also took up cudgels to stop this illegal practice but all failed and with the passage of time these tests became a major contributor to bias against a girl child.
(Below video contains images that may be shocking.)
Female feticide and infanticide is not the only issues with a girl child in India. At every stage of life she is discriminated and neglected for basic nutrition, education and living standard. When she was in the womb, she was forced to miss the moment when she was supposed to enter the world. At the time of birth her relatives pulled her back and wrung her neck. After killing her she was thrown into a trash can.
The nation of mothers still follows a culture where people idolizes son and mourns daughters. UN figures out that about 750,000 girls are aborted every year in India.
It is believed that every year 12 million girls are born in the country but unfortunately only 1/3 of those survive. Some are killed in the womb, some at the time of birth, some die due to ill health and some due to poor nutritional status. Only a few numbers of girls are able to survive till their 15th birthday. ‘

~~~~I cannot watch the rest…
I am crying. I am crying. I am crying . I am ANGRY. I am so angry that I want to jump from my chair and do something about this. How can we change the ignorance of an enitre nation’s mindset???….
One can change laws, but it will not matter a damn without changing the “Thinking.” … Thiking that utterly distorted and brutal.
Watching this video was like being in HELL.
Alex, thank you for continually making us aware of what is happening in the Universe….We need to KNOW. WE need to Change. We are all affected by this. By not doing anything, we are contributing to this brutality.
This was probably one of the most shocking things I have ever seen. I am heart sick and mourn the potential that was thrown away.
How can a mother do this to her unborn is beyond me. you want no more girls in the world – then how does the world go on? No girls. No women. No mothers. No world. We will become extinct.
People have got to stop this sort of behavior.
totally beyond me and my capacity to understand anymore how people think.
I was absolutely shocked discovering this – and what’s more – I was absolutely shocked by the fact that I have not been AWARE so far about this kind of extreme crime, made in the whole society without any punishment involved. I will certainly go further and try to find out what is the actions/reactions of the international authorities to this crime. I am still trembling..
