Aurore Guillot – Going to the End of the Dreams

622-1She holds the title as The Best Craftsman of France 2008 in the category ‘Lingerie’.
Mother of 2 adolescent daughters and – in everyday life – lawyer working in the public sector – successfully and finally realizes her ultimate love for fashion.
Since 2000 in order to become a professional she takes the French fashion exams CAP, BEP, and BT. She would like to achieve nothing less but the perfectionism of her big ideals: Chanel, YSL, Valentino, Azzedine, Alaïa..

The Competition

She knows about the ‘Le Meilleur Ouvriere de France’ competition, known in France as the ‘Noble Prize of the handcrafts’. ‘Becoming The Best Craftsman of France – a challenge? Why not, after all, I would like to go to the end of my dreams!’
First attempt is in 2000 in the specialty “haute couture’, she is selected for final test with the creation and implementation of a little black dress (see photo) with innovative details. Despite a family and work out, she tries again in 2004, but the ‘haute couture’ category has been removed from the competition.

More than ever determined, she decides to choose the category “Lingerie” as the closest one in terms of finesse and professionalism required. In the one and only tissue shop in her hometown Marseille she buys a high quality silk. The color is orange – as aurora… From this she creates a model of silk negligee and a nightdress stripped together that requires more than 2 years of work…
A fired of her says: this masterpiece must be a direct reflection of the personality of this woman, both discreet and affirmed: the color orange, warm and bright highlights the invaluable work and meticulous inlays; everything is reflecting the finesse and softness, like Dawn. ”

The Winner

And yes, she is the winner!
Aurore gets her medal on the University of Sorbonne the 30th of January 2008.
31st of January she is in the Palais d’Elysees where she receives the congratulations from Nicolas Sarkozy, the President of France .

The Future?

Her plans for the future? Still a dream: to open an atelier where she could create the customized clothes according to the personality and taste of her clients.
Inspiration? The tissues, the paintings, nature, architecture, the photos, warm colors…
‘I am coming from the generation where both mothers and grandmothers were sewing a lot, fully conscious and sensible for the elegance and chic. Today, unfortunately, those skills are disappearing, but for me it is fully naturally to create by sewing. I would love to be able to sacrifice myself professionally to my art and be able to do this full time’.

    Your story and this prestigious achievement are wonderful. I love the fact that you have a “serious” work and a family but still you’ve been able to follow your dream.
