Annie Lennox awarded the 2009 “Woman of Peace” award at the summit of Nobel Laureates

Scottish singer Annie Lennox has been presented with the 2009 “Woman of Peace” award at a summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Berlin for her work raising awareness of HIV/AIDS.

Lennox was chosen on Wednesday for her work in raising awareness of the impact on women and children, especially in South Africa, with her SING campaign enlisting 23 female vocalists to record a song of the same name.

“I want to express my profound gratitude and deep humility,” the former Eurythmics singer said. “I honour all the women working around the globe to reduce the effects of this pandemics. This is for them, they truly deserve it.”ates in Berlin for her work raising awareness of HIV/AIDS.

Annie Lennox apart from her music success with Eurythmics in the 80′ies has become renowned for her charity work with organizations such as Amnesty International, Greenpeace, and Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Foundation. She was awarded with the British Red Cross’ Services to Humanity Award in 2008, dedicates much of her time to raising awareness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa. (source: looktothestars.com)
